Allusive Wall of Art (AWoA)

The Versus - Old and New

The idea is to break the definition of the typical wall that everyone is familiar. The proposal will include the versus of walls. For example, from linear to curvilinear, a mono-function to multi-functions and barriers to openings allowing various opportunities in translating art in the building. One will experience different stages in a cross-culture between the old and new. This new idea of changing the typology of wall will still preserve the historical essence of Suncheon. This approach will expose various techniques and different art installation dimensions. Users will not only experience the spaces physically but also spiritually.

In the past years, ‘Walls’ were known as barriers; to protect, to separate and to submit (pray). Later, walls have become the ‘canvas’ for expressing art – graffiti, 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art.

As Suncheon is going through regeneration, the strong culture and historic values must be kept and valued for the younger generations. This allows combining the old and new. Extension to this, it will also juxtapose the historical information on a new, modern art platform

The Morphology

The main spine connects from the North to South of the site giving more access for visitors to come from the East (underground mall) and West which also connects the Suncheon Art Platform with the new YeonJa Ru. The curvilinear walls become a crowd magnet, pulling visitors into the art platform to experience both different dimensions and perspectives (2D-4D) of the art. The enclosed walls of these spaces indirectly promote multifunctional projections. The historical information will be translated into art and being projected on walls.
