TIMELESS MACHINE
by CM HASIB CH
Urban living are well connected horizontally with nodes, open space, etc. Nowadays, skyscrapers have been ‘growing like mushrooms’ in cities around the world.
The Issue
Unfortunately, the smoothness of urban life are lacking vertically. In building interiors, there is hardly cross-social interaction between programs, users and spaces in the tower. As none of these overlap, the design of an enriched experience within the tower is lacking. The elevator itself encourages automaticity and isolation. While all the activities are condensed in proximity, the spaces, which they fit into a tower, are dictated like cells - within its own skin.
Design Idea
The typical tower design are always located within the common area in every floor for the users. This idea proposal breaks the isolation within the floor with separation of the common space such as the pantry, meeting room, staff lounge etc. The design proposal is to create a split level - a common room between 2 floors of the each main office floor. The space is connected through a half storey ramp. The common space will act as the node where it connect users, programs and spaces more efficiently between floors by reducing the usage of elevators which then promotes to a sustainable vertical life in the tower.
